Michał Milowicz is a remarkable actor, singer, and film producer. Known to a broad audience mainly for his comedic roles, this time, he took on an entirely new challenge by lending his voice to the character of Petronius in the first animated adaptation of Quo Vadis by Henryk Sienkiewicz.
In a conversation with Agnieszka Migalska, he spoke about the behind-the-scenes of the production, his approach to the role, personal feelings about the character, and the challenges he faced while working on the film.
As the actor emphasizes, Petronius is a highly colourful and complex character. Although he is remembered in history as the arbiter elegantiarum – a connoisseur of fashion, poet, and advisor to Nero – his genuine relationship with the emperor was full of contradictions.

– He has to manoeuvre between apparent loyalty to Nero and his scepticism toward the emperor’s decisions. Petronius did not truly respect him, but he had to maintain appearances to avoid Nero’s wrath and harsh punishment – says Milowicz. – This ambiguity and the necessity to carefully weigh every word made the role demanding but also highly satisfying.
Another challenge was to portray Petronius as an influential yet empathetic man, especially in his relationship with Vinicius, whom he mentored and protected.
When Michał Milowicz learned about the creation of the animated adaptation of Quo Vadis, he immediately thought back to the novel itself, which he had read with great enthusiasm years ago.
– My first thought? The book, of course! Then Kawalerowicz’s film, but above all, I had the literary original in mind – the actor recalls. – I was excited when I heard that it would be a 3D animation. It’s an entirely new format that allows for creating something truly unique.
Milowicz emphasizes that Quo Vadis is not only a grand love story and a political intrigue but also a tale of perseverance, faith, and moral choices. He adds that Sienkiewicz’s novel teaches maturity, resilience against evil, and the fight for timeless values.
Although Michał Milowicz is primarily known for comedic roles, he admits that he has always wanted to try his hand at more dramatic parts.
– I love Valuable Cinema. Of course, the audience associates me with comedies because that’s where I received most of my opportunities – he says. – However, my ambition has always gone beyond that. I have a diploma as a dramatic actor and am still waiting for a role that will allow me to showcase myself in a completely different light.
Milowicz does not hide that music is an inseparable part of his life. The audience remembers him from performances in the musical Metro, at the Buffo Theater, and as Poland’s Elvis Presley. Does he plan any new music projects?
– Yes! He admits I have concrete plans but can’t reveal the details yet. – I will continue recording and performing. Three Faces of Milowicz is my original musical project, where I combine classic rock’n’roll, Polish popular music, and my original compositions. This is extremely important to me because I don’t want to be just a performer and a creator.
In addition to acting and music, Milowicz also has experience in the business world. However, as he admits, he now focuses primarily on the artistic side.
– In business, I currently operate mainly as a film producer. I am interested in directing and screenwriting. He says I want to develop in these areas and try new things. – An artist matures throughout their entire life, and I still have many challenges ahead.
At the end of the conversation, Milowicz refers to one of the main themes of Quo Vadis—love, which Sienkiewicz’s novel portrays as a timeless force.
– Love is something fundamental. For him, family and close relationships are essential, and he strives for them. He is glad that Quo Vadis presents this theme so beautifully – he summarized.
Milowicz’s multi-dimensional portrayal of Petronius is one of many elements that make the animated Quo Vadis exceptional. The film is available for viewing thanks to the distribution by Wyspa TV, allowing audiences worldwide to immerse themselves in this timeless story in a completely new form.
This is just the beginning – soon, WYSPA TV will unveil more exciting stages of this cinematic journey. Stay tuned for behind-the-scenes content and upcoming updates!
