This time, Michał "Misiek" Koterski took on the role of Nero in the first-ever animated adaptation of Henryk Sienkiewicz’s “Quo Vadis”, which has just premiered on WYSPA TV. In a conversation with Agnieszka Migalska, the actor discusses his approach to dubbing, the challenges of embodying Nero, and what was most important to him in this role.
Nero – A Challenge That Could Not Be Refused
– It was an extraordinary adventure, says Michał Koterski. – It’s not often that an actor gets the chance to play such a vivid and contradictory character. In this animation, Nero required a technical approach to dubbing and deep emotional immersion in the role.

Koterski emphasizes that dubbing is an entirely different form of acting, requiring vocal control that conveys a character's full range of emotions. – It’s an intense process. After long recording sessions, he admitted, he was utterly exhausted because Nero is a character you must put your whole heart into.

It is no secret that Michał Koterski is known for his colourful and demanding roles. His performance as Edward Gierek in the 2022 biographical film was widely praised, and the actor spent two years faithfully preparing to portray the PRL-era leader.
Gierek required Koterski's complete physical, intellectual, and psychological transformation. Nero, on the other hand, is an entirely different but equally demanding challenge. This character is intense and full of emotions and contrasts. By stepping into his shoes, he confessed that the actor had to leave a part of himself in the role.
During the interview, Koterski also discussed a topic that is particularly important to Him: faith and spiritual transformation. The actor has been open for years about his conversion and the impact of faith on his life.
Some films and characters remain in people’s memories for years. "Dzień Świra" ("Day of the Wacko"), with its cult "To be or not to be" scene, is the best example. Could the same happen with Nero in the animated “Quo Vadis”?
– The audience will decide whether this role will be remembered. If they love Nero like they love other iconic characters in Polish cinema, it will be an incredible joy for me, Koterski said with a smile.
This is just the beginning – soon, WYSPA TV will unveil more exciting stages of this cinematic journey. Stay tuned for behind-the-scenes content and upcoming updates!
