Commemorating the 85th Anniversary of the Deportation of Poles to Siberia

On February 8, 2025, the Polish community in Manchester will gather to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the mass deportations of Poles to Siberia. This solemn event is a tribute to those who endured unimaginable suffering simply because of their nationality.

The ceremony, organized in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Manchester and the local Polish community, will occur at the Polish Church of Divine Mercy in Manchester. It will be a moment of reflection, remembrance, and unity in honour of the countless individuals who survived exile in the harsh conditions of Siberia.

An Evening of Remembrance and Music

The event will feature a concert by Katy Carr, a renowned British-Polish singer whose work is deeply connected to Polish history. Her music tells the stories of those who fought for freedom, and her performance in Manchester will be a tribute to the exiles and their indomitable spirit.

Event schedule:
16:30 – Doors Open
17:00 – Concert by Katy Carr
19:30 – Holy Mass for the Homeland

The ceremony will be held at the Polish Church of Divine Mercy (196 Lloyd Street North, Manchester, M14 4QB), a fitting venue for this significant anniversary.

Remembering the Past, Learning for the Future
The deportations to Siberia, which began in 1940, were among the most tragic chapters in Polish history. Thousands of innocent men, women, and children were forcibly taken from their homes and transported to the remote, unforgiving lands of the Soviet Union. This event is not only a moment to pay tribute but also an opportunity to educate future generations about the resilience and courage of the Polish people.

Everyone is Welcome
This event is free and open to all who wish to pay tribute, learn more about this historical chapter, and stand in solidarity with the Polish community. Your presence will signify remembrance and respect, regardless of nationality.

We encourage everyone to join us in this moment of reflection and commemoration. Let us ensure that history is not forgotten, that the voices of those who suffered are heard, and that their sacrifices continue to inspire future generations.

We look forward to seeing you there. May the memory live on!
