53rd Polish Ball – An Evening of Elegance, Tradition, and a Charitable Mission

The evening of January 25, 2025, in London was marked by elegance, tradition, and a unique atmosphere. The prestigious InterContinental London Park Lane hosted the 53rd Polish Ball. For over half a century, this event brought together the Polish elite in exile, promoting culture and national values while engaging in charitable activities. This year's Ball, synonymous with social engagement, gathered distinguished guests, including His Royal Highness, the Duke of Kent and Ambassador Anna Sochanska Director for the Polish Diaspora at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.

The official part of the evening began at 6:00 PM with a welcome glass of champagne and commemorative photographs against a grand backdrop. Guests were then invited to the ballroom, where the traditional Polonaise dance was performed, led by the Wiwaty Song and Dance Ensemble and the Polish Folk Dance Company Żywiec. This spectacular dance introduced participants to the spirit of Polish history and heritage.

After the official welcome and ceremonial toasts, the national anthems were played—first the British anthem in honour of King Charles III, followed by Mazurek Dąbrowskiego in tribute to the President of the Republic of Poland. This symbolic moment emphasized the exceptional character of the event, uniting Poles abroad with their homeland’s traditions.

Following the formal proceedings, guests enjoyed a gala dinner with a meticulously curated menu that reflected the sophistication of fine dining. Artistic performances took place between courses, with the Wiwaty ensemble returning to the stage to present a rich repertoire of Polish folk dances.

A musical highlight of the evening was a concert by soprano Aleksandra Szmyd, whose performance mesmerized the audience. The first waltz then marked the beginning of the dancing part of the night, opening the ballroom to all guests.

The Charitable Mission of the Polish Ball

One of the most significant moments of the evening was the charity auction held to support the Eugeniusz Dutkiewicz Hospice in Gdańsk. The auctioned items generated considerable interest, with a portrait session by Barbara Kaczmarowska-Hamilton being sold for £15,000. Additional highlights of the auction included:

A bespoke tailoring voucher from Kuba Bonecki – £1,800,

A Polish national football team jersey signed by the players – £3,300.

The auction demonstrated the immense generosity of the Ball’s attendees, who eagerly engaged in helping those in need.

Physiotherapy is an essential form of support for young patients, yet its funding by the National Health Fund is minimal. To ensure children receive the best possible care, the Hospice Foundation must seek additional sources of support. This year, the Hospice was chosen as the beneficiary of the 53rd Polish Ball in London, receiving invaluable support for this noble cause. Every act of kindness is a step toward a better life for the youngest patients.

The Traditions of the Polish Ball

The Tree of Luck is an inseparable tradition of the Polish Ball, attracting guests annually with its unique charm and atmosphere. Attendees draw prizes, adding excitement and joy to the event, making this moment one of the most anticipated highlights of the evening.

The night also featured a Silent Auction, where guests could bid on valuable items and historical treasures. This prestigious element of the Ball allows participants to acquire unique pieces while supporting a meaningful cause.

Sponsor Support

Securing sponsors is becoming an increasing challenge year after year. However, the Polish Ball is an event with a remarkable history with which many wish to be associated. Thanks to this legacy, long-standing sponsors continue to support this initiative, but there remains a need for new sponsors to engage in this noble cause.

It is undeniable that the Ball’s Organizing Committee plays a crucial role in this effort, led by Attorney Marzena Konarzewska, the Chair of the Polish Ball, whose dedication and commitment are invaluable.

A Symbol of Polish Unity

The unique atmosphere, distinguished guests, and exceptional ambience made the 53rd Polish Ball another great success. It was a gathering of the Polish elite in London and a symbol of unity, national pride, and the cultivation of tradition.

Wyspa TV had the honour of attending this extraordinary evening, documenting the event through photo and video coverage, for which we sincerely thank the Ball’s Committee and Attorney Marzena Konarzewska, who has invited us for four consecutive years to participate in this significant role.
