With great pride and joy, we announce that this year, our station has decided to participate in the National Reading initiative, a nationwide campaign aimed at collectively discovering the most significant works of Polish literature. This unique initiative, launched in 2012 by the President of Poland, attracts thousands of book lovers every year, who join forces with educational and cultural institutions, as well as public and social organizations in Poland and abroad, to celebrate the richness of literature.
This year’s edition of National Reading focuses on one of the most important dramas of Polish Romanticism – "Kordian" by Juliusz Słowacki. Written in 1834 during the poet's stay in Switzerland, this masterpiece reflects the spirit of the era and contemplates the fate of a generation of Polish conspirators facing the challenges of the November Uprising. In his drama, Słowacki analyzes the causes and consequences of the failed uprising, blending realistic events with fantastical elements, giving the work a deeply symbolic character. "Kordian" profoundly reflects patriotism, heroism, and moral dilemmas that remain relevant even today.
As part of this year’s National Reading event on Saturday, September 7, 2024, our station proudly becomes part of this extraordinary celebration. We invite our viewers and listeners to immerse themselves in this remarkable story. Our presentation will feature excerpts from Act I, Scene I, where, inspired by the poetic depth and reflections on the fate of the individual in a national context, we will remind ourselves of the importance of literature in shaping national identity.
National Reading is not just an opportunity to celebrate literature, but also a chance to rediscover the values it conveys. It is an invitation to pause in the rush of daily life and, together with other book enthusiasts, reflect on the universal questions that touch both our minds and hearts.
We warmly invite you to watch our participation in the National Reading and to experience the literary journey through one of the most significant works in Polish literature. "Kordian" by Juliusz Słowacki awaits to come alive once more on the drama's pages and in the listeners' hearts.
