Summary of the 6th World Congress of Polish Engineers and the 28th Congress of Polish Technicians
From June 9 to 11, 2025, the 6th World Congress of Polish Engineers and the 28th Congress of Polish Technicians took place in Poznań - an event of exceptional importance for the engineering community in Poland and abroad. This year's edition, held under the theme “Technology for Health and Safety,” brought together representatives from various fields, including engineering and medicine, the natural sciences, education, and new technologies. The event not only strengthened professional and international ties but, above all, became a platform for a substantive debate about the future.
Organised by the Supreme Technical Organisation (FSNT-NOT), the event was held in a jubilee year for the Federation, under the honorary patronage of the Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, as well as the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Science and Higher Education. The project was supported within the framework of the "Excellent Science II" programme, with the Łukasiewicz Research Network serving as the primary partner.
In the final resolution of the Congress, participants emphasised the continuation of a tradition dating back to 1882, as well as the enduring relevance of Stanisław Staszic’s motto: “To be of service to the nation.” Delegates expressed the belief that Poland should not feel inferior in comparison to the achievements of other countries, but instead should boldly leverage the full potential of its engineering community.
Among the key themes was the need for close collaboration between engineering and medicine. Interdisciplinarity was recognised as a necessary condition for developing effective health solutions. Emphasis was placed on advancing medical imaging technologies, utilising artificial intelligence in diagnostics, and optimising the use of large datasets in the development of therapeutic algorithms.
The “Young People Propose” session, supported by the KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation, held a special place within the event. Young engineers presented innovative projects - from Mars rovers and hydrogen-powered vehicles to racing cars. Their work demonstrated that the future of Polish science and industry stands on solid ground. The Congress strongly advocated for investing in student research clubs, nurturing passion, and fostering cooperation between academia and industry.
Another thematic block focused on food security and environmental protection. Issues such as food waste, nutritional education, and promoting the so-called planetary diet were discussed. Energy was also a key area of interest. The Congress called for the development of education in this field, the creation of dual-degree programmes, and broader societal engagement in the energy transition process.
Significant attention was also given to material engineering, 3D printing and recycling. Poland stands out in Europe for its research on high-performance concrete and steel structures. The needs of the space sector were addressed, along with the need for greater European involvement in this domain. The role of artificial intelligence was highlighted as a supporting, not replacing, tool for humans, which requires special ethical consideration and responsible implementation.
The participants at the Congress presented the thesis that the engineering profession is becoming increasingly elitist. A comprehensive model of education was deemed necessary, one that integrates both hard and soft skills, teamwork, interdisciplinarity, and the ability to learn continuously. The need for flexible study programmes, as well as the development of mentoring and tutoring as integral components of technical education, was also emphasised.
Both the Resolution of the 28th Congress of Polish Technicians and the Message from the 6th World Congress of Polish Engineers serve not only as summaries of the discussions held but also as clear roadmaps for the years ahead. A shared belief underpins both documents - that technological progress should serve humanity, promote health and safety, and protect the planet.
The joint gathering of engineers from Poland and the Polish diaspora was a testament to the immense potential of the technical community. It also served as a reminder that, in a world of constant technological, social, and environmental change, engineers-creators of the future-bear a unique responsibility. And a unique opportunity.
